Recorders for Music- a Not from the Music Room

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am thrilled to be teaching music this year at Hubbard. Our first term was great with a lot of enthusiasm from the children during their music classes.

In the new year I would like to teach all students to play the recorder. Years ago, the music teacher would wash the recorders between classes and share a set of instruments with the whole school. I would much prefer to have all students have their own recorder. I am writing to you to ask you to either purchase a recorder at the Dollarama, Tony’s Music Box or Long and McQuade, send in one from home or pay 4.00$ for one on SchoolCashOnline. I will put in a bulk order and start lessons as part of music class once we have enough classes ready to go.

If you send a recorder in from home, please label it and send it in ASAP. I will keep them safe until we are finished the unit. If you purchase a recorder through the school, it will be sent home once the unit is complete.

Thanks for your support,

Hubbard Read-In

Family Literacy Day in Canada takes place officially on January 27th.  In celebration of our school’s efforts to improve our students’ literacy and love of reading and learning, we are holding our annual Hubbard Read-In as part of this important life-long skill. This year’s theme is “Learn to be Green Together”.   We invite you to join us as a Guest Reader for this event.

We would be honoured if you would join us for on Friday, January 24th to be a Guest Reader at Hubbard Elementary School from 9:30- 11:00 am.

Please bring and read a copy of your favourite children’s book to small groups of students from grade 3, 4, and 5 as an expression of the value we all share in reading in our lives.  We will have a supply of age-appropriate books on hand, if needed.

If you are able to join us, please email cindy.miller@nbed.nb.ca by January 17th

Reminder: Student Fees Due
A quick reminder that Student Fees of $50 are due. You can conveniently pay online at SchoolCashOnline.com. Please make sure to settle the fee as soon as possible.

Prepare for the Cold Weather
As winter settles in, please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the cold temperatures. Our students go outside for Gym class 2-3 times a week, along with morning and lunch recesses. Students will be outdoors unless it is raining or the temperature drops below -20°C.
Tip: It’s a great idea to pack extra warm clothing in your child’s bag and, as always, remember to label everything!

Bus Passes – Important Reminder
Bus passes are only issued for emergency reasons. They will not be given for other requests. Students are allowed to have one alternate location (e.g., daycare, shared custody) for bus drop-offs.

End-of-Day Changes – How to Communicate
If there are any last-minute changes to your child’s routine at the end of the day, please send a written note to the teacher in the morning. If this isn’t possible, call the admin assistants before 2:00 PM M-T & 11:30 F. In such cases, you will need to enter the building to pick up your child.
Please note: Teachers do not check email during instructional hours, so avoid sending email requests for changes.

Stay warm and safe this winter!
